August 10 to 24, 2019

Prince Edward Island and Southeast New Brunswick
The 6th edition of the Congrès mondial acadien will be held on Prince Edward Island and in Southeastern New Brunswick from August 10–24, 2019. It will mark the 25th anniversary of the event. In order to better publicize the event, a delegation from the host region will travel to the United States at the end of April. Members of the delegation will be attending the Festival International de Louisiane, which is being held in Lafayette from April 25–29. The following week, they will give a few public presentations in New England, where many Acadians and friends of Acadie reside.

Information-rich cultural programming will be delivered, and the culminating point of the week will be the show put on by the CMA 2019 on the Festival’s biggest stage, right before the closing show. The “Congrès mondial acadien 2019 Kitchen Party” will feature nine artists and groups from the Maritimes, Quebec and Louisiana, who were already taking part in this year’s Festival.

“The Festival is giving us a large platform to promote the CMA 2019. We therefore staged a show with artists already scheduled to perform. We grouped them together under a ‘kitchen party’ theme. The 75-minute show will not only feature artists from our host region, but artists from regions considered primary target audiences,” explained Claudette Thériault, Chair of the Congrès mondial acadien 2019.

On Sunday, April 29, from 3:30 pm to 4:45 pm, the CMA 2019 will present the “Congrès mondial acadien 2019 Kitchen Party” at the Festival’s Scène Internationale. The show will feature Zachary Richard (Louisiana), Ten Strings and a Goat Skin (Prince Edward Island), Lisa LeBlanc (New Brunswick), Les Jeunes chanteurs d’Acadie (New Brunswick), Jacobus (Nova Scotia), Florent Vollant and Shauit (Quebec), Dominique Dupuis (New Brunswick) and Dans l’Shed (Gaspésie).

Public Presentations in Louisiana and New England
CMA 2019 Chair Claudette Thériault will take advantage of several opportunities to invite people to come visit the host region of the Congrès mondial acadien in August 2019. Public presentations have been scheduled in St. Martinville and Lafayette, a booth will be set up on the festival grounds, and “CMA Happy Hours” will be held at the OMNI Center, a new cultural center in Lafayette, located not far from the festival perimeter. The chair will also hold three public presentations in New England. She will stop in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

The mission of the Congrès mondial acadien is to reunite Acadians and all those interested in Acadian culture. For more information about the programming and event, visit www.cma2019.ca.
