August 10 to 24, 2019

Prince Edward Island and Southeast New Brunswick
famille avec drapeau webMoncton, August 10, 2018 – It is already time to commemorate the “one-year countdown” to the Congrès mondial acadien 2019! In exactly 365 days, the sixth edition of the CMA will get underway on Prince Edward Island and in Southeastern New Brunswick. To mark the occasion, each CMA host municipality will organize special activities around August 15, National Acadian Day.

In fact, to mark the date, staff and members of the organizing committee want to recognize each of our 20 host municipalities. With the support of the CMA 2019, each host municipality will therefore organize a memorable celebration between August 12–15, 2018, to mark the “one-year countdown” to the opening of the sixth edition of the Congrès mondial acadien.

Musical performances, tintamarres and outdoor events will be held all over the host region, from Tignish to Saint-Louis-de-Kent. There will be three major shows to celebrate National Acadian Day, held in Moncton (Acadie Rock), Dieppe and Abram-Village. Radio-Canada will be broadcasting a special program live for the occasion.

“Since all host municipalities will be invited to join us for the huge August 15th celebration taking place in Dieppe next year, we wanted to give each of them a chance to organize something special this year. Besides starting the ‘one-year countdown’, these activities will allow communities to come together to celebrate National Acadian Day in style, and will leave a tangible legacy for future celebrations,” affirmed Claudette Thériault, Chair of the CMA.

To mark the “one-year countdown”, the CMA 2019 has also launched a contest on social media. Participants have a chance to win one of four guitars, signed by one of our four artistic directors.

So how are preparations going, 365 days before the event? While host municipalities are in the process of identifying the programming for community activities, the CMA 2019 is getting ready to launch the preliminary programming in the fall of 2018. Concepts for the major shows will be revealed, as well as some of the artists.

“Great things are in the works. Everyone is stepping up to ensure that all these interesting projects come to fruition. Furthermore, it’s great to see the real connections being made between Prince Edward Island and Southeastern New Brunswick,” explained the chair.

We are also organizing large family reunions – to date, 26 families have registered and are preparing their reunion – and we have come up with a different approach for the conference and youth components. Details on these activities will also be revealed during the launch of the preliminary programming.

So here we go! A year from now, the Acadian experience of the year will get underway!
